Index Catalog of Manuscripts Newly Donated to Atatürk Library - I

From the Preface

Manuscripts in Atatürk Library are gathered in three main sections. These collections are known as:

1. Muallim Cevdet Manuscripts
2. Osman Ergin Manuscripts
3. Municipal Manuscripts

As can be seen, the first two collections are named after the donors. The 'Municipal Manuscripts' Section consists of manuscripts donated to the library by different people at different times. All of them have been recorded, and catalog slips have been made available to the researchers.

However, the catalog slips for a number of newly donated manuscripts to the library could not be written. It was required to complete them as soon as possible so that the readers could benefit from the works that were newly added to the collection.

The index catalog has been prepared to meet this need. In the catalog organized based on the author's name, a short bibliographic masthead of each book (author's name, book title, copyright date, if any, size of the book, number of sheets, number of lines, type of writing, if any, the name of the copyist, the place and date of the copying of the book, then the subject, language and registration number) have been provided. The works without an author are placed in alphabetical order based on the title of the book.

Each bibliographic masthead ensures that investigators have sufficient information about the book it belongs to. Additionally, the following has been added to the end of the catalog:

1. The index of book titles;
2. The index of the book title and the names of the authors, poets and important persons mentioned in the notes section of the bibliographic masthead;
3. The index of useful information in the notes section of the bibliographic mastheads;
4. Subject index

. These directories will undoubtedly make it easier to use the catalog.

When new manuscripts are added to the Atatürk Library, the publication of the Index Catalog will continue. We hope that this first volume, in which seven hundred and twelve works are introduced, will be useful for researchers.
