The Paper and Binding Restoration Laboratory undertakes the preservation and repair of all paper materials in the inventory of Atatürk Library and affiliated museums.

The main purpose restoration is to restore any paper works that have been damaged due to acidification, fungus and mould formation, insect destruction, decay previous incorrect restoration practices, misuse etc., and restore their original integrity to preserve them for future generations.

Our restoration laboratory process consists of cleaning, fortification, repair, and pressing. Material and equipment are used depending on the type of document, such as manuscripts, printed works, maps, edicts, warrants and engravings.

The bookbindery has been providing services since the foundation of Atatürk Library. Paper restoration has been actively carried out since 1995. Successfully restored works are delivered to the Book storage or the Museum Works storage. To ensure the longevity of the collection this unit also oversees the preservation and maintenance of undamaged works.
