The library opened on the 11th of October, 2022, in the Altınşehir Neighborhood of Başakşehir.
This library is part of the Metropolitan Municipality’s next generation library project, which aims to transform libraries beyond their traditional capacities into cultural and educational hubs that revitalise disadvantaged communities and facilitate access to culture, art, and books for the people of the region, especially children and young people.
The library is named after Sabahattin Ali, an author who spent most of his life in prison and exile. His work, an outstanding example of socialist realist literature, continues to enthral generations.
The library is 508 square meters and has a capacity of 110 people. The library hosts a collection of 15,000 books comprised of an up-to-date selection from different disciplines. Sabahattin Ali Library, like IMM’s other libraries, hosts educational and entertaining workshops for children, and seminars for adults.
Thanks to their technological infrastructure that supports access to remote education, digital library and large reading areas, conference halls, wide variety of activity and workshop areas, and YouTube recording studios, our Libraries are becoming a frequent destination for Istanbul residents, primarily young people. The library has also become a place that meets the study area needs of the young people in the Başakşehir region.
