The 1600-year-old world heritage City Walls (Kara Surları) were brought back to life by the IMM Heritage teams affiliated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural Heritage, a comprehensive archaeological restoration approach based on preserving the aesthetics of the ruins was employed.
The city walls, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, were restored to serve as a library and contemporary art exhibition space. The Visitor Centre, named the "Mevlanakapı Visitor Centre”, opened on the 15th of September 2022.
Ziyaretçi merkezinde yer alan kütüphane, 50 kişi kapasitesi ve başta Tarih, mimari, şehir, sanat ve İstanbul olmak üzere 2.000 kitaptan oluşan koleksiyonuyla okuyucularını bekliyor. Mekan, tarihi yapıyı ziyaret eden herkese açık olup, kitap-kafe konseptine sahiptir.
