Researchers wish to use the research libraries and benefit from the services of our branch libraries should create a library membership.
In order to access and benefit from digital resources, an online membership should be created at katalog.ibb.gov.tr via the sign up tab. You can only view our digital collection with these memberships.
For Library Membership;
User who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey can access the lending and library services by creating a membership with their Turkish ID number.
Foreign nationals can become a member with an identity card and residence permit of at least 6 months.
Details required for membership include: the user's first name, surname, TR ID number, email address, domicile address, date of birth, phone number, and a secondary contact phone. Information must be provided in full.
A Photo is also required for membership. The photo will be taken by the librarian during the sign-up process.
Membership transactions for users under the age of 10 at our libraries must be done with parental supervision. Users must be over the age of 5 to acquire membership, book loan transactions for users aged 5 and under can be made by their families.
Readers with residence addresses outside Istanbul can become members by following the above protocol.
Users who are members of any IMM library, can benefit from all IMM libraries.
Reservation
To reserve a seat at the library in advance use the following link: katalog.ibb.gov.tr, and select the appropriate date and time from the reservation tab in the upper menu.
Seating area can be reserved 1 day in advance.
Reserved hours appear in grey and unreserved hours appear in green.
If you cannot show up for the reservation you have created, you can log in to the system and cancel it from the "Reservation History" tab.
The QR code should be scanned within 15 minutes of the start time for the reserved seat. Otherwise, the reservation will be cancelled automatically.
The library staff can make corrections and/or cancellations if they deems necessary.
You may take a break for 30 minutes. The reservation of a user who does not return to their desk after 30 minutes will be cancelled.
No food or drink is allowed in the library. However, drink bottles can be used.
Report all your problems to the staff at the library counter.
Library Use
Baggage is not permitted in the library.
In study areas, mobile phones shall be on silent mode, speaking on mobile phones is not allowed.
Any behaviour that will cause noise in the study areas and corridors shall be avoided.
Except for water, food and beverages are not allowed in the library building, study areas, and corridors. Only drink bottles can be used.
Unauthorized photography is not allowed in the library with tools such as cameras and mobile phones.
Library users are responsible for protecting their belongings. The library management cannot be held responsible for potential theft or loss that may occur in the library.
Computers in the library are to be used for educational and research purposes only.
User who damage library information resources (books, magazines, newspapers, etc.) or property (computers, tables, chairs, etc.) with have their membership cancelled and be reported to the Directorate of Libraries and Museums for legal action.
All materials in the library are protected by the magnetic door security system. Any material which has not gone through the borrowing process cannot be taken out.
Study areas and corridors are emptied during cleaning hours. No users are allowed in the study areas until the cleaning is completed.
In the event that a user does not return to their desk after 30 minutes, their belongings will be taken by the hall attendant, and the table allocated to another user. A user cannot reserve a space for another user.
Books taken from the shelves should be left on the tables, no attempt should be made to place them on the shelf.
Users cannot use the tools and equipment of the library staff without permission.
Users are obliged to follow the library rules. Legal action will be taken against users who disregard the warnings of the library staff or cause any negative situation other than those described in the directive, their relationship with the library will be terminated.
You can report any of your problems to the library staff.
Lending and Return
Members have the right to borrow 3 books at once.
The book loan period is 30 days.
The period of use for a book whose return date is approaching can be extended for a one-time period of 15 days. This can be done both via telephone or email, or through the automation system with an online library membership.
In a borrowed book is not delivered on time the user will not be allowed to take out any new loads until the book is returned.
Borrowings and returns must be completed 15 minutes before the library closes.
In the Atatürk Library and Istanbul Library, storage specific collections, Müracaat, Atatürk and Istanbul Department Books and Periodicals are not lent. In branch libraries, Reference Books and Periodicals are not lent.
If a borrowed book is lost or torn, the same book (published by the same publisher), or a book determined by the library officer should be delivered to the library.
Photocopy Service
Printed and electronic resources are protected by the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works number 5846. The scanning or photocopying of an original resource must not exceed one book chapter. Accordingly, at libraries where photocopy service is provided, up to 10 percent of the work may be photocopied.
No print-out service is provided at libraries by using digital means such as flash disk, CD, email, etc. Printout service is provided only by photocopying from our library resources.
